Brampton is the third largest city in the Greater Toronto
Area (GTA) and with a median age of 33.7, it is the youngest
community in the GTA. Brampton's population, based on the 2006
census was 433,806, making it the 11th largest city in Canada.
It is also one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities with
an average annual growth rate between 2001 and 2006 of 6.6%.
Brampton celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2003, since its
incorporation as a village in 1853, taking its name from the
town of Brampton, in the northwest of England.
Georgetown along with Acton,
Ballinafad, Glen Williams, Limehouse, Terra Cotta and Norval
form the main population centres of the town of Halton Hills. Georgetown is located
approximately 60km west of Toronto, on the Credit River. By 1864
Georgetown had a population of 1250 and by 1921 it had reached
over 2000. Currently it is estimated that almost 60,000
souls call Halton Hills their home. Georgetown, which
takes its name from George Kennedy, who settled in the area in
1821 was incorporated as a village in 1864. |
